It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Amity Grad Andrew Eldredge.
Andrew Eldredge was struck by a motorcycle while walking in New York City on August 29, 2014, just days before he was to begin studies at Harvard Law School.
He was in a coma and hospitalized for a very long time.
Over the past two years, Andrew has touched so many lives. He had such a promising future. Our hearts go out to his family.
Obituary:
Andrew Cady Eldredge, 26, of Woodbridge, beloved son, brother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.
Andrew grew up in Woodbridge, Connecticut, where he attended Amity High School, excelling in academics and participating in varsity sports, theatre, and debate. Andrew attended Colgate University, graduating Magna Cum Laude (’11) with honors in Political Science.
He held leadership positions in both student government and the Colgate Speaking Union. During college, Andrew traveled the world competing in debate and then studied abroad at University of Cape Town in South Africa. While there, he tutored children in shanty towns and received the Lampert Fellowship in Public Affairs to research the political crisis in Zimbabwe.
After graduation, Andrew worked at Orion Consultants, then backpacked with his girlfriend throughout Southeast Asia. Never taking his eye off the goal of quenching his thirst for knowledge, Andrew completed a year at Boston University School of Law before transferring to Harvard Law School.
Andrew was well-known for his zest for life, intellectual curiosity, debating prowess, and humility.
Andrew was fueled by a love of family and friends and a keen sense of wonder and adventure. Cherished time during summer was spent with family in Rockport, MA. Andrew also enjoyed skiing, sailing, listening to music of all genres, and watching the Miami Dolphins (13!).
If he could speak now, Andrew would surely express gratitude for the love and support that he received in the months following his injury and throughout his life. Andrew touched and inspired many people:
A day with Andrew meant a day with a laugh and a sense that he truly cared about each and every one of us.
Andrew is survived and adored by his parents, Stacey and David Eldredge; sisters Lindsay and Madeline; grandparents Sherman and Joyce Cooper, David Eldredge Sr. and Joan Reivich, and Joan Eldredge; uncle Craig Cooper; aunts Robin Cooper (Jimi Lewis), Valerie Cooper and Sharon (Mario) Sanchez; Jenny (Joe) Jones, Karen Reivich (Guy Diamond), and many cousins, extended family and friends.
A Memorial service celebrating Andrew will be held at Congregation Mishkan Israel, 785 Ridge Road, Hamden, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016.
Family members will greet guests at 1 p.m. A reception will be held immediately following the service.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings (Aug. 25-27) from 7 – 9 p.m.
