Obituary: Maureen Hawks Fama, 69, Beloved Mother of Christi Hohman

Maureen Hawks Fama, 69, died on January 6, 2017, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
The Derby Connecticut native was a graduate of Derby High School. She was employed by Schott Electronics for many years and as a baker with the Stop & Shop for 15 years.
She worked with the Ansonia, CT, Civil Defense for over 20 years and was a volunteer with the Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT. She was a former member of the Connectuit Alumni Drum and Bugle Corp in Seymour, CT, and the Connecticut Hurricanes.
She moved to Bulloch County in 2004 and was a volunteer with the Effingham Hospital in Springfield. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Zawadski and a brother, Kevin E. Hawks.
Surviving is her husband and best friend, Carl Fama of Guyton, GA; three daughters, Michelle Weymer ( Robert Mut) of Ansonia, CT, Christi (Robert) Hohman of Orange, CT, and Deonna Fama of Guyton, GA; a brother, James Hawks of Derby, CT; one sister, Sharon Durette of Torrington, CT; eight grandchildren Jeffery Sullivan, Tiffany Sullivan both of Ansonia, CT, Desiree Hohman of Orange, CT, Cassondra Fama of Syracuse, NY, Tyla Fama of Ansonia, CT, Mikala Fama of Milford, CT, Shayna Fama of Guyton, GA, and Amanda Fama of Pt. Wentworth, GA; one great grandchild, Jace Alexander of Ansonia, CT. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
