When my mom died last week, my brothers and I named the District Animal Control and American Cancer Society as two charities where friends and family could make donations instead of sending flowers.
My mom loved her little dog, Spooky, who came from the DAC shelter. We credit him with keeping her alive so long as she always expressed her concern about his welfare if anything happened to her. (Spooky now calls my brother, Ron “Dad”).
Some Amity residents knew where to send the DAC donations, but even today, others called asking for an address.
The One Big Dog Animal Respite Fund, Inc, is a non-profit, charitable organization whose mission is to prevent and alleviate animal suffering by providing medical care, spay/neuter services, food and placement assistance for stray, abandoned and shelter animals in participating communities in New Haven County.
If you would like to donate to One Big Dog in my mom’s name “Joan Ann Haas,” please send it to One Big Dog, c/o District Animal Shelter, 135 Bradley Road, Woodbridge, CT 06525.
My brothers and I and all the animals that will benefit from it thank you in advance.
