Social media sites have become toxic in the past few years. I chose to stop using Twitter (“X” is a stupid name and filled with negativity) due to the increasing nastiness. But Facebook remained a way to connect with family, old friends, new “friends” and the Orange Community.
Since May 2012 I have been cross-posting Orange Live stories on different community Facebook pages as a way to ensure that everyone who doesn’t log onto the site every day has access to important information i.e. property transfers, events, obituary notices, etc.
So when someone hacks my personal account, which gives me access to the entire Facebook universe and I am shut out by the powers that be, it negatively affects me in countless ways.
Friends (real friends) that I communicate with only through Facebook can’t reach me — I see their attempts in my e-mail feed, but can’t access the messages. A childhood friend passed away and I missed all of the out-of-state funeral details because no one thought to call or text me.
Are we so dependent on social media that we forgot how to use the phone?
It’s also important for me to have access to Facebook since so many town departments, organizations, and groups now post their events on the platform and no longer send out press releases, assuming everyone will see it there.
I have tried to change the password on my Facebook account, but every effort has failed.
I get strange messages, cryptic nonsense and I beg for help but receive no response.
I only get canned messages like these that make no sense to me.
“It looks like you were misusing this feature by going too fast. You’ve been temporarily blocked from using it.”
“If you think this doesn’t go against our Community Standards let us know.”
“Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”
I DO let them know, yet I haven’t had access to my account by no fault of my own for several days.
If anyone has any insight, please let me know. Mark Zuckerberg is too busy to give a darn about the little people who use the platform. Billionaires … PFFT.
