Screen Shot 2015-05-28 at 1.15.56 PMMary Ellen (“Marion”) Leydon Troy, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 24, 2015.

She was the beloved wife of the late Augustine (“Gus”) C. Troy and devoted daughter of Irish immigrants, the late Joseph and Mary Ellen (Cullen) Leydon. Gus first laid eyes on Marion in St. John’s Church, where they both attended daily Lenten mass. Upon learning they had mutual friends, he asked to be introduced to her. Theirs was truly a match made in heaven, and they spent 42 happy years together until Gus died in 1995.

Marion was born in Chicago on January 21, 1930, and was a longtime Stamford resident until moving to Orange in 2012 to live with her daughter, Loretta.

She was a 1948 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, a faithful communicant at St. Cecilia Church for 58 years, a member of Shorehaven Golf Club for more than 30 years, and a dedicated member of the New Canaan Country School staff for almost 20 years. She was always cheerful, had a nice word for everyone, and made friends easily and everywhere.

Marion and Gus loved life and hosted many Fourth of July, St. Patrick’s Day, and New Year’s Eve parties that always included singing around the piano. She celebrated life right up until the end, when she injured herself dancing at a St. Patrick’s Day party. She never fully recovered, and her Alzheimer’s disease progressed quickly from that point on. She had a wonderful life and she went out dancing!

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister Loretta Leydon, brother Joseph Leydon, son-in-law Doug Pirc, and daughter-in-law Sarah Troy.

She is survived by her children Patrick Troy, Mary Ellen Troy, Brian Troy, Loretta Pirc and Ginger Troy; grandchildren Christopher Pirc (Emily), Brian Troy (Sofia), Cameron Pierce (Blair), Jennifer Troy, and Carolyn Pirc; siblings Rita Griffin and Jack Leydon (Barbara); and many nieces and nephews.

She was the loving, caring, kind, smart and funny matriarch of our family. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all.

Friends and family may visit on Friday from 4-8PM at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St Stamford CT 06905.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday May 30 at 10 AM at the church of St Cecilia in Stamford.

In Lieu of Flowers, Donations may be made to West Haven Adult Day Center 201 Noble St., 2nd Floor West Haven, CT 06516.
