Obituary: Dorothy Sophie Szatkowski, 92, Beloved Mother of Victor Szatkowski Jr.

Screen Shot 2016-07-09 at 9.33.48 PMDorothy Sophie Szatkowski, 92, of Ansonia, died peacefully on July 5, 2016 at the Hewitt Health and Rehab Center, Shelton.

Born in Shelton on January 30, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Sophie Monsam Baranowski.

Mrs. Szatkowski was a lifelong resident of Ansonia and graduate of the New Haven Beauty Academy. She worked as a Dietary Aide for over 25 years for the former Derby Nursing Home where she was a member of the New England Healthcare Workers Union Local 1199, until the time of her retirement in 1997.

Mrs. Szatkowski was a member of TOPS for 40 years and enjoyed crocheting afghans and shawls for many friends and family.

A devout Catholic, she would attend Mass as often as possible. When she lost her mobility, she would then watch the daily TV Mass with her rosary beads always in hand.

She was predeceased by a brother, John C. Baranowski.

Mrs. Szatkowski is survived by her devoted children, Lois A. (Richard, Sr.) Carr of Norwich, Victor A. (Laura) Szatkowski, Jr. of Orange and Karen J. (Jeffrey) DiDonato of KY; cherished grandchildren, Richard Carr, Jr. and Vivian Carr; Ryan and Matthew Szatkowski; and Meredith Higgins; 6 cherished great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services took place from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia, on Friday, July 8, 2016, at 9:00 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial was Celebrated in the Church of the Assumption, 61 North Cliff Street, Ansonia. Interment followed in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby.
