Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 11.05.47 AMWTNH-8 Reported some very sad news this morning:

Middlebury Police say one person was killed in a car accident there Tuesday morning.

Police got a call at 9:14 a.m. for a car that had hit a tree on the side of the road near the intersection of South Street and Long Meadow Road.

When police got there they pulled Robert Graham, 45, of Orange from the car. He was unresponsive.  Emergency crews administered CPR. He was taken to Waterbury Hospital and pronounced dead.

A family friend contacted Orange Live this morning requesting help for his wife and children.

The text from a new GO FUND ME page is as follows:

The 8th grade Amity Force travel basketball team is asking for your help.   Rob Graham, Tessa’s dad, passed unexpectedly today.   Our hearts and prayers are with all of them at this time.

As some of you know, and some may not know, they were in the  middle of moving to Pennsylvania where Tara’s family is from.   Their house is on the market and were hoping to make the transition after the school year ended.

Instead of sending flowers or a fruit basket, we thought it would be most helpful if we could help them defray any costs of their move or any expenses that may suddenly arise.

We thank you for any support and help that you may be able to provide.

Screen Shot 2016-06-17 at 2.35.19 PMWe are all saddened and searching for appropriate words to describe the loss of our families’ founder Pasquale Ernest Luciano Sr., who passed away peacefully on Thursday June 9, 2016 with his family by his side at his home in Orange.

He is beloved by us all. You would realize that his smile, filled with charisma, was always at the forefront. He made us laugh and wanted us all to enjoy each day we are blessed with. He was a fighter through his illness; he made it clear: “no tears for me, I had a great life, wonderful children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, stay happy for me.” All of us cannot help the sadness of seeing the separation of our dad with his best friend and love of his life, Mary. They were married for 62 years, and set an example of love and loyalty to us all. Pat and Mary will forever dwell in our hearts. May God bless us all.

He leaves behind his twin sister, Rosemarie Bufano and her husband, Joseph, his sister, Carol Stone and her husband, Manas Ronald; three sons, Pasquale, Jr. (Solin), Joseph, and Ronald and his daughter, Gina, “His Girl Friday;” His grandchildren, Jessica, Malina, Kelly, Kristen, Roxanne, Doris, Kevin, Leah and Alaina. Alaina was pinned into a nurse by “Pop Pop,” as we lovingly called him. Pop was so proud of Alaina, as we all are, and he was the reason she is now an Oncology Nurse.

He also leaves his loving daughters-in-law, Cherilyn and Sarah; along with great-grandchildren, Thomas, Natalia, Luciana, Adonis, Julian, Lucia, Destin, Vicente, Jacob and Carson; and so many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Rose Vertucci Luciano; sisters, Theresa Rivellini, Angela DiBiaso, Frances Aiudi; and his brothers, Alfred, Dominic, Anthony and Ralph Luciano, Jr.

Obituary: Ulrich Hans Weil, MD, 93, Former Orange Health Inspector

Screen Shot 2016-08-03 at 9.07.19 PMUlrich Hans Weil, MD, was born in 1923 in Breslau, Germany (now Wrocaw, Poland) to Sigmund Weil, a professor of orthopedics, and Elsa Weil.

With the rise of the Nazis he was sent to school in Switzerland, but at 16 he was required to return to Germany to serve the country. As his father was Jewish, Ulrich was considered to be of ‘mixed blood’, and so was sent to a labor camp, rebuilding bombed railroad lines.

Given the circumstances, the family’s avoidance of deportation to the concentration camps in the east was miraculous. In 1944, at war’s end, he attended medical school at Heidelberg University. At the time there was a shortage of medical residents in the USA. A program inviting German students to America was created to help normalize relations.

Ulrich was among the first participants, becoming an intern at Muhlenberg Hospital, New Jersey. There he met Ruth DeMeza, a nurse. They married in 1953.

In 1955 he began to work at St. Raphael’s hospital in New Haven. He became a professor of Orthopedics at Yale University, and in 1959 founded a private practice called the New Haven Orthopaedic Group (later Connecticut Orthopedic Specialists). After thirty years of private practice, he became Medical Director of Yale-New Haven Hospital’s Emergency Department.

He also served in community roles, including Town of Orange Health Inspector. He attended orthopedic Grand Rounds at Yale Hospital until he was 90 years old.

He and Ruth settled in Orange in 1959, and raised three children: Christa, Ulrich, and Claudia. In his free time he loved reading history, swimming, and writing. He is the author of a medical textbook and many papers, including one exploring the medical condition of Toulouse-Lautrec.

He was a man of keen intelligence, deep morals, and unwavering commitment to the health of his patients and training of his students. In his retirement, Ulrich and Ruth moved to Branford, where he remained until his death.

At his wishes, his remains were donated to the first-year anatomy students at the Yale Medical School.

He leaves behind Ruth, his wife of 63 years, daughter Christa Weil and her husband Dean, daughter Claudia Esposito and her husband Andrew, son Ulrich Weil, and grandchildren Alexander, Niko, Christa, Claire, Madeline, Timothy, Andrew and Matthew.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday August 6 at the Turtle Bay Condominium Clubhouse, 1 Turtle Bay Drive, Branford, from 11:00 to 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dr. Weil’s honor to the Ct. Hospice Development Office, Branford Home Care, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
